Amazon’s CDN Sounds Great, But…

I've been reading through the blogosphere and it appears Amazon is launching a new CDN service. I've already applied to beta test it, as FreedomSpeaks runs off of S3 to serve all of it's public facing content. But this brings up the point of my post.

Why do we need a CDN if S3 seems to be working just fine in that capacity? Am I missing something here?
